Shira 7 is our signature route and this itinerary has been meticulously crafted to deliver an unforgetable experience.  Begin your adventure with a day of relaxation at a beatutiful handpicked luxury lodge where you can relax and fully recover from your long flights. The extra day allows for a relaxed acclimatization hike within the breathtaking National Park and a short game drive. Following this relaxing start, you will embark on an exhilarating ascent to Africa’s highest peak.  After your summit bid and upon your arrival back in Arusha your transport will whisk you to the Gran Melia Hotel where indulgence awaits. Sip luxurious drinks whilst taking in the mesmerizing views from the rooftop of the over looking Mt Meru, creating unforgettable memories.

9 DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 & 2 / ARRIVAL / LODGE

Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport you are met and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. You are given a full briefing and equipment check with the Climbs Manager and your guide. Dinner & overnight Lodge (dinner).

Day 3 / KILIMANJARO / LONDOROSI

From Arusha we set out in vehicles to Londorosi gate to sign into the parkand then transfer up to Morum Barrierto start hiking at around 3700 metresAMSL. Lunch is taken either at the gateor at Morum before embarking on aleisurely hike to camp crossing 2seasonal steams. You arrive in campmid-afternoon.

Day 3 / KILIMANJARO / SHIRA I

Set on the west side of the Shira Plateau, Shira Camp 1 is one of thecamp sites of the second leg of the journey up Mount Kilimanjaro.Climbers get to see a range of flora and fauna species with thechance of spotting the White Naped Raven.

Day 4 KILIMANJARO / SHIRA II

Shira Camp 2 is one of the camp sites found on the Shira Plateau onthe second leg of the trip up Mount Kilimajaro. This camp is set atthe eastern edge where climbers get to view more scenery such asthe view of Uhuru Peak. After a significant altitude gain the daybefore, today is a short day and youarrive in Shira 2 camp in time for lunch.A good day for acclimatisation with theoption of an afternoon walk to explorethe Shira Plateau with your guides.

Day 5 KILIMANJARO / BARRANCO

From Shira 2 we traverse across theslopes of Kibo. Here relatively little floraor fauna can survive the extremetemperature ranges and conditions thattypify this zone. Today is a “walk highsleep low” day. You ascend into alpine desert to LavaTower (Alt: 15,092ft, 4600m) wherelunch is taken before descending toBarranco Camp. This is a long day butnote that the next time you head tothis altitude is at base camp – a greatacclimatisation day!

Day 6 KILIMANJARO / KARANGA

From Barranco Camp, famous for itsgiant groundsels (Senecio species),you ascend the Barranco Wall and hikeglacial valleys to Karanga Camp. Todayis a relatively short day’s hike and lunchis taken at Karanga camp. The afternoon is spent relaxing andacclimatising. In the evening a practicewalk for the summit is taken to makesure you are completely comfortablewith the kit you are going to summit in.

Day 7 KILIMANJARO / KOSOVO

Day 8 / KILIMANJARO / SUMMIT ATTEMPT - MWEKA CAMP

Most people depart just before midnightfor the final summit bid. Patience andpersistence are the name of game toreach the summit (Uhuru Peak: 19341ft,5895m) and by dawn as the first rays oflight start to appear, most arrive near the rim. Ascending via StellaPoint (Alt: 18,865ft, 5750m) affords arelatively short final section to UhuruPeak, the Roof of Africa! What goes upmust come down however, The first stage is to get back to ourbase camp for a quick change ofclothes and refuel before the long hikedownhill to Mweka Camp. The downhillis hard on the knees and walking polesat this stage are highly recommended.You should reach Mweka Camp before dusk for your final night on the mountain

Day 9 / ARUSHA / DEPART

After breakfast you descend once again through afromontane forest and around midday, after saying farewellto your crew, you are picked up and transferred back to your lodge for a well deserved shower! Later that evening you will be visited by a member of the Three Degrees South tream to congratulate you, to find out how the trip went and to answer any final questions you may have about your onward journey.
